Common questions

What is a USDOT number?

A USDOT number is the unique registration the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration assigns to every company operating commercial vehicles in interstate commerce. It identifies the carrier in safety audits, inspections, and crash investigations. Most for-hire carriers also hold an MC operating authority number alongside it.

How do I check if a DOT number is active?

Enter the DOT number in the search above. We pull the carrier's live FMCSA record — authority status, safety rating, power units, drivers, and location — the same data brokers check before booking a load. You can also search FMCSA's SAFER system directly; the underlying data is identical.

Why does my trucking company show up here?

FMCSA registration data is public record. Every active carrier has a lookup page on Yes Cap built from that record. If it's your company, you can claim the page (free during beta), add your lanes, equipment, and contact info, and turn the lookup result into a real marketing page brokers can act on.

How current is the data?

Each carrier page refreshes from FMCSA every 24 hours. Fleet counts come from the carrier's own MCS-150 filing, which FMCSA requires carriers to update at least every two years — so power-unit numbers can lag a growing fleet.
